Mad for Plaid is making a difference! Your private gifts have financially supported teachers salaries and campus needs that benefit every student in our Distrist K-12. Now we must maintain these advances as well as meet our new technology and programming needs. Once again we are asking for your support in this public / private partnership that provides the excellence in education that our community expects and our children deserve.
Consider this:
- Robin Hood is still in effect! 72% of our tax revenue dollars are recaptured by the state. This year's significantly lower tax rate benefits our property owners, but results in fewer absolute dollars for our schools. Our community's reinvestment of its tax savings in Mad for Plaid would assist in fulfilling our educational expectations for our schools and help keep our property values strong.
- With last year's generous private gifts, $1,375,000 from Mad for Plaid helped fund an unprecidented 5% teacher pay raise. Thanks to the support of our comjmunity, salaries in HPISD are once again competititve with other area school districts.
- Mad for Plaid serves current critical needs at our schools including District wide programs such as New Jersey Writing, Curriculum Development, the Literacy Program, the Math and Science Initiative, and continuing education
- Techers are our first priority. We need to continue to attract and retain the best teachers available as well as to expand our teaching staff to offer new programs and maintain reduced class sizes.
- Technology - Funds are needed to update and uniformly equip our classrooms with the technology vital to engaging our children in the learning process.
